iOS Screen Time

Block modes — Locked, Homework, Bedtime, Free Time

Koodos has four modes. Each one has its own list of blocked apps, and the device switches between them automatically based on the schedule you set (or instantly if you change it from the Parent App).

Free Time

The default mode when no other mode is active. Typically you'd allow most apps here, maybe with a few restrictions.

Use this when your child isn't supposed to be doing homework, isn't going to bed, and you just want some light guardrails.

Homework

Active during scheduled homework windows you set in the Parent App. Block social, games, and entertainment — leave educational apps and the browser open.

Your child can still use the device for school work; everything else is paused.

Bedtime

Active during scheduled sleep hours. Block almost everything. The device essentially becomes unusable except for emergency apps (Phone, FaceTime).

Locked

A full block — all selected apps off-limits. Use this for screen-free time (dinner, family outings) or as a quick "everything off" you can trigger manually from the Parent App.

How modes are chosen

The device picks the highest-priority mode that currently applies, in this order:

  1. Locked (manual, set by parent)
  2. Bedtime (scheduled)
  3. Homework (scheduled)
  4. Free Time (default fallback)

So if bedtime starts while a homework window is also active, Bedtime wins.

Where to set schedules

In the Parent App, open the child's profile and tap Schedule. You can set:

  • Daily Bedtime windows
  • Daily/weekday Homework windows
  • Always-blocked apps that apply in every mode

Where to pick which apps each mode blocks

That's done on the child device in Koodos itself — see Choose which apps to block. One-time setup; you typically only revisit it when adding new apps.
