Device shows offline
If the Parent App shows a child's device as Offline, here's how to figure out what's going on.
What "offline" means
Every minute or so, the child device sends a small heartbeat to our server so the Parent App knows it's alive. If we haven't heard from it in a few minutes, we mark it offline.
Offline doesn't mean rules stopped working. The child client keeps enforcing the most recent rules even when it loses internet. Offline just means we can't show you live status or push instant changes.
Quick checks
- Is the device turned on? Sounds obvious — but a closed laptop or a powered-off iPad won't heartbeat.
- Is it connected to the internet? Wi-Fi off, plane mode, hotel captive portal, school firewall — any of these will block heartbeats.
- Has it just woken up? A PC that was asleep can take a minute to come back online after waking. Same for an iPad that's been sitting unused for a while.
If it's still showing offline
- Restart the device. Especially on Windows, occasionally the Koodos services stop. A restart brings them back up.
- Re-open Koodos on the child device. On iOS, opening Koodos forces a fresh heartbeat. On Windows, the service runs in the background automatically — but it can't hurt to launch the client window.
- Check your child's PC for network proxies or VPNs. Some VPN apps block our domain (
*.koodos.app). Allowlist it if needed.
When to contact support
If the device has been offline for hours and none of the above helps, email support@koodos.app. Include the child's name and roughly when you last saw the device online.
