Pairing keeps failing
If pairing won't complete — the QR code scans but nothing happens, or the device gets stuck on "Pairing…" — work through these in order.
1. Check internet on both ends
Pairing needs both the Parent App phone and the child device to be online at the same time. If either is on a flaky Wi-Fi or in airplane mode, pairing will hang.
Toggle airplane mode on/off, or switch to a different Wi-Fi network and try again.
2. Get a fresh code
Pairing codes expire after a few minutes for security. If you're seeing a stale code:
- Windows — close the Koodos window and reopen it.
- iOS — close Koodos by swiping it away in the app switcher, then reopen it.
A new pairing screen with a new code will appear.
3. Verify the device isn't already paired
If you've already paired this device to a child profile, Koodos won't show a pairing screen — it'll go straight to the regular UI.
To re-pair, you need to unpair first. See Unpair or move a device.
4. Camera can't read the QR code
If the Parent App's camera struggles with the QR code (low light, glare, scratched screen), tap Enter code manually and type the 6-character code.
5. Network firewall
Some school or corporate networks block our pairing endpoints. Try pairing on a different network — your home Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot.
6. Time and date are wrong
Pairing tokens are time-sensitive. If the child device's clock is way off (years in the past, common after a battery-out reset), pairing will fail.
Set the date and time to Automatic in system settings and try again.
